A Welcome Message From Chapter President Robert Brewster

Welcome to the official website of the Intermountain Chapter, National Railway Historical Society! The Chapter’s function is to honor, celebrate, support, learn and educate about Colorado’s rich and often spectacular railroad history. Preservation, restoration, and operation of railway venues, historical sites, and rolling stock are key elements in our efforts.

The goals of the website are to provide timely information about the Chapter’s events, offer information about other rail-related activities in Colorado, and serve as a “go-to” site for links to the numerous rail historical sites, rail museums, rail organizations & societies, and operating tourist railroads. The new website will also serve as a repository for historic rail, trolley, and transit photos and videos, including Chapter events and excursions, revealing a legacy for all members and the Chapter.

It is our desire to foster cooperation and fellowship between all of the region’s rail-oriented entities. We want to help spread the word about Colorado’s rails! I like to call it “cross-pollination.” Or, “rising ballast lifts all rails.” We can accomplish great things when we do it together!

The Intermountain Chapter hosts monthly luncheon meetings for members and guests that feature various programs involving the world of rail, Colorado rail in particular. The Chapter also collects donations of cash and railroadiana which we convert to heritage grants for successful rail history venues. Our website will assist in these endeavors, so please peruse the various topics and categories to better understand our mission. The “Resources” tab will provide numerous links to other rail organizations at the local, regional, and national levels. Please explore all the tabs.

Finally, I must acknowledge a sincere THANK YOU! to all those who preceded us in forming and maintaining the Intermountain Chapter. Our photo legacy will provide evidence of their efforts. We wish to thank Dave Pitts, who maintained our first website for years, and also served as Chapter president for at least a decade. Continuing leadership has brought us to where we are today. Thanks to ALL!

We trust you will enjoy touring the Intermountain Chapter’s second generation website and we invite you to join our Chapter and partake in its activities. There is so much to learn about Colorado’s magnificent railroad history. Further, we suggest you consider joining our national organization for a wider scope of our nation’s wealth of railroad legacies. Visit NRHS.com
